Nikki Harpur celebrates special milestone in women’s senior rugby

28 May

Women’s Premiership rugby player Nikki Harpur had cause for a double celebration at Hautapu Sports’ Club Day.

Her team won their second match of the season, beating University 22-15 at Memorial Park.

But her teammates and supporters turned the team celebration into a special recognition of Nikki Harpur’s own rugby career, in which she’s now played more than 100 games of senior club rugby.

She played 88 games for Tokoroa-based Southern United and now played 14 times for Hautapu Sports, who launched their inaugural women’s team in 2024.

“For those familiar with the grade, you’ll know that the seasons aren’t long, which makes this milestone even more impressive,” the club said it its tribute to her.

“It’s a true testament to the time, dedication, and passion Nikki has shown for both clubs.

“Nikki’s commitment, along with that of everyone from the team, especially those from the South Waikato, is deeply appreciated by all of us.”

The Women’s Premiership team honoured her with a haka after their match and later on Saturday evening, the entire club came together to perform the club’s haka for her.
