Hautapu Sports’ Premier A side ended their season in style with a 41-33 win against Hamilton Marist to secure the coveted Waikato Breweries Shield.

In front of their own supporters at Memorial Park, the Hautapu side led from the start and never relented.

After leading 26-12 at half-time, they repelled a late resurgence by Marist to take their third Breweries Shield in five seasons.

In the early game on Saturday, Hautapu Colts lost 21-26 to third-placed Morrinsville, despite leading 21-5 at the break.

Hautapu get their chance to avenge the loss when the same teams meet next Saturday in the semi-finals of the Colts competition.
